The role of martial arts in education

The outcomes of Dorka (2006) research show that school children hardly know anything about martial arts. Unfortunately one of the reasons is the not appropriate education of PE teachers. A great number of PE teachers have not been trained at all and had no basic knowledge about the techniques and methods of martial arts.

In the 90-ies new subjects were introduced and implemented into practice. At this time children had the chance to learn what martial art might mean. Both their popularity and social expectation made professionals learn then teach these sports. It has also been recognized that martial arts develop and from, change personalities and attitudes of children.
