Funny exercises done in pairs and groups

Children are very fond of doing exercises and drills in pairs and groups. They can open up by enjoying themselves in a relaxed atmosphere and trying out their skills with their school- and class mates.

Rolling a log

Exercise in pairs. One of the members of the pairs lies on his/ her abdomen on the floor with straight and upraised hands. The other member of the pair stands by his/ her side and starts rolling the log with two hands. Make students change roles.

Dual wheelbarrow

  • two students are in push up position at an arm’s length from each other, the third student grabs the leg of one student and at the same time he grabs the other leg of the other student and start pushing them both.
  • two students are in push up positions behind each other, the first student places his/her legs on the shoulders of  his/partner behind him/her and his/her legs are lifted and pushed by the third member of the group.

Walrus

One of the students is in a straddle type push up position, the other one steps behind him/her and while holding his/her thighs he/she is lifting his/her partner’s legs.

Summersault forward in pairs

Pairs standing close to each other hold each other’s hands. By keeping hold their hands they have to do somersaults while supporting themselves with their other hands.

The other version of this exercise

One of the students seats in straddle position, the other one stands behind him/her and supports his/her body on the partner’s hands. From summersault position he/she jumps over the partner’s head, then lands on the floor and while holding each other’s hands he/she does forward summersault into straddle seat. At the same time the student who is in sitting position stands up and while he/she is gambolling he/she is waiting for when he/she can jump over the student’s head. They should do somersault one after the other.

Devil wheel

One of the students of the pair lies down in supine position; the other one stands behind his/her shoulders in straddle position and grabs his/her partner’s lifted leg, also holding the standing student’s ankles. Without letting off the ankles they should do summersaults one after the other.

Siamese twins

One of the students stands in straddle position the other one is doing handstand. The student who is in straddle position grabs the other student’s feet and walks round, forward, backward and round in this position.

Funny turn

Tiger summersault with legs wide apart in headstand position between the legs of the student’s who is in shoulder stand position.

Rolls in sideways in pairs

If it is possible this exercise is advised mainly to boys whose weights are almost the same. One of the students lies in supine position, the other one is over him and supports himself with his feet, meanwhile the student being in supine position holds the other student’s ankles and lifts him up. They change position while rolling sideways. They are suggested starting this exercise with bent arms.

Crab

One of the students lie in supine position, the other one stands over him/her in straddle position, and when bending forward he/she stands on his/her hands. The student who is in supine position clasps his/her partner’s waist around and supports himself/herself with stretched arms over the ankles and pushes forward in this position.

Run on five legs

Three students stand side by side, the two outer ones hold each others’ hands, the student being in the middle puts his hands on the other two students’ shoulders. He/she hooks one of his/her legs into the other two students’ clasped hands.  They walk, and then run on “five legs”. More than three students can do this exercise.

Giant monster

Students stand in two lines.  In each line there are 6-12 students close to each other. The students who are in front are in knee-straddle position, the ones who are behind them and one of their hands and legs are on one of their students’ back, and their other hands and legs are on the other students’ back. As soon as they can hear a signal this “giant monster” starts walking.

The pairs are suggested having the same height and weight.

Floating a log

10-16 students lie close in supine position at their side with stretched arms. The “log” lies on the partners’ back across them. The partners roll at their side and make the student swim.

Alive bridges

8-14 students knee in straddle position in one line. The student at the rear stands up then climbs up the bridge, and crosses the bridge in straddle position. When he/she has crossed the bridge he/she also kneels down. This exercise is repeated several times.

Man with stiffened muscles

8-10 students seat in Turkish position close to each other in a circle. The “man with stiffened muscles” stands in the middle of the circle. The others with their stretched arms push this “man” to and fro. Students should be careful not to kick this “man” out of the circle.

Funny tag game

8-14 students are on their knees close to each other in a line in straddle position. At both ends a student faces toward the other. As soon as they can hear the signal they try to catch the other. One of them crawls forward on the backs of the others, the other student climbs under the legs of the others.

Living chair

6-14 students stand in a column at about half metre far from each other and hold their shoulders with bended arms. Each student will sit on the knees of the students being them.

Gregarious handstand

4-10 students hold each other’s shoulder while falling down on one of their knees and the students between the two ones with supported hands place one of their legs on the other’s arm. Then the kneeling students lift up their partners into hand stand position and walk forward slowly.

Snake shedding

6-14 students stand in a line at body length distance from each other, they are in straddle position. Everyone bends forward while reaching back his/her hand, with his/her right hand grabs the student’s hand that stands in front of him/her. Without letting the hand go off they walk forward so that the student standing who is the first in the line could do summersault in supine position, legs are wide apart. All other students walk over him/her with stretched legs being wide apart and the last student in the line does summersault forward into supine position. When the last student walks over the first one he/she stands up and he/she helps the students to stand up who lie in supine position.

Tiger summersault high jump competition

On a high jump stand a rubber band is fixed and a high jump competition with tiger summersault is organised. The height is lifted with 5 cm each time. The winner is the student who can jump over the rubber band without knocking it down.

Giant with 100 hands

5-12 students stand in a line at body length distance from each other in supine position with stretched legs wide apart, then back to basic position

Giant with 100 legs

6-14 students stand in a line within reach. Everyone bends over and grabs the student’s ankles standing in front of him/her. They start walking without loosening the ankles. The first student in the line leads the others on four hands. This exercise can be done on knees.
