Sportive, playful exercises, start and running

  1. Stealing gym shoes: runners stand in front of each other, between them there is a gym shoe. The task is to catch the shoe without letting the other participant touch the shoe and take it with him/her behind the base line.
  2. Catcher in lying position: lying supine, legs stretched. B lies on his/her belly; hands are supported on the ground. To a signal B tries to touch one of the feet of A. A bends his/her foot as quick as possible. 
  3. Black-white, night-day: the class stand, sit or kneel in two lines in front of one an others. To a command one of the teams tries to escape behind a given line. The members of the other team try to catch them.
  4. Students stand in a line. Teacher rolls the ball behind their backs. Whose reaction is the fastest?
  5. 30 metre long handicap running. Students stand in stepwise in line, to a signal they start running and try to catch the runner in front of them.
  6. Start on a sloping track (practising bending forward).
  7. Reaction-catch: pairs run. As soon as a number is shouted out one of them tries to avoid being caught by the other member of the pair.
  8. Cross-catch: students being chased can escape if they cross the hunters’ track. The saver will become the chased student.
  9. To and fro catch: students run between two lines back and forth. There are two hunters and whom they catch also becomes a hunter. Who will cover the distance more often?
  10. Footrace with team evaluation: there are several columns and one runner shoots out from a column. His/her points are added up.
  11. Valley footrace against a ball: B throws the ball down toward the direction of the valley. A (behind his/her back) tries to catch the ball and bring it back until he/she reaches/crosses the check mark.
  12. On a track each team run with a baton for 20 times. The number and sequence of baton exchange can be decided freely. 
  13. Relay: the sprinter should do a task in the middle of the track within a given time.
  14. Which team will cover a 20 metre long distance within 30 minutes (start-sprint)?
  15. Relay against individual sprinter: a 3-4 member relay team compete with individual sprinters. (The effectiveness of baton exchange).
  16. Start-ball: in the middle of the track there are 5-6 rubber balls. As soon as a signal is heard the team go to the other side of the track while the hunter tries to hit as many students as he could with the balls.
  17. Students run with a sheet of paper stuck on their back trying not to loose it. The paper should be folded up. The smaller the paper is the better.
  18. A and B throw a lump of paper up into the air. Switching place. Who can catch his/her partner’s ball?
  19. A throws a lump of paper against the back of B. As soon as B is hit with the ball A starts running immediately.  He/she touches the ground with both hands and start running after B (Murer, K., 200).
  20. Catch in a circle: athletes form a circle while holding their hands. In the middle of the circle some Indian clubs are placed. Athletes push one another to and fro and if one of them knocks them over he/she will try to catch the others who run as far as the catch mark which is 15 metres far. 
  21. Chain catch: the game starts with a hunter. The person who is caught will hold the hand of the hunter while finally they form a chain. The winner is the one who could not be caught.
  22. Endless relay: the 400 metre long track is divided up into 8x50 metre sections. 9 sprinters will participate in the competition. At the start line two runners are; the first and the last. The game is repeated.
  23. Starting running with various positions:  crouch-, set-, kneel-, Turkish seat - positions, standing starts, starting blocks, bunch or bullet start, medium and elongated start.
