The importance of throwing

One of the most essential and natural movements of human beings is throwing. It is clear how important throwing was to human evolution. When children throw with their one hand it can be observed that they do this in three phases. They push and drag the heavier objects and just throw and shoot the easier ones over their shoulders (Baracs, 1985).

Professional throwing athletes’ great weight and higher body height are beneficial as they have to defeat not only their weight but also the resistance of the object. The effectiveness of throwing depends on the difference between the weights of athletes and objects that will be thrown. Besides these factors it is also crucial to have sense of space, time and rhythm.
