Abilities, competences in martial arts

Martial arts are systems aiming to develop physical and mental health and fitness. Children should be creative and they are forced to make decisions all the time. They have to opt for the right and proper techniques (either light or medium–contact) on the spot within a few seconds. “Examinations focusing on creativity have made evident that creativity involves both volitional and planned activities and motions. Cognitive control makes adaptability flexible. It is indispensable in solving tactical tasks” Nagykáldi, 2002 p. 50). Gaining information is supported by relevant inner and outer stimuli. These stimuli are synthesised and categorized by the contestant, for example, they have to decide if the partner’s hit comes from an appropriate distance. If it is outside of striking distance then no reactions are needed. Defensive contestants react quickly when they have arrived at a decision after collecting signs and information. Concentration and styles are the basis of getting proper and enough information so that athletes could make their decision of what type of reaction they will need to defend themselves with.
