The introduction of everyday physical education

In the 2011/2012 school year the government, under the impact of the previous studies and surveys, took concrete steps towards the implementation of everyday physical education. The implementation legislation was prescribed in CXC law (Public Education Act) of the Public Education Act. The law was adopted by the Government at its meeting on 23 December 2011. Based on the legal provisions concerning everyday physical education, from 1 September 2012 all public education (now public training) institutions should gradually introduce everyday physical education.

27. §  (11)⁷¹ In the system of full-time school education, in general education, on those teaching days when general or vocational education takes place, the school organizes everyday physical education at least as one everyday physical education class, of which a maximum of two hours per  week can be replaced by

a) Forms of teaching activities defined in the provisions concerning the framework for the physical education curriculum subjects; literacy and culture-related teaching arrangements

b) Playing sports in school sports clubs

c) training activities organized within the framework of a sports organization, on the basis of a request from a pupil athlete who is engaged in certified competitive sports activities and is a member of a sport association, has a valid license to participate in a sport competition in that school year and is in a possession of a certificate issued by a sports organization.

d)⁷² on the basis of a  application from a pupil who is engaged in sports activity  for at least two hours per week in a sports association – if it conflicts with a physical education class in the afternoon – together with the half-year valid certificate issued by the sports association.

(11a)⁷³ If the infrastructure conditions for swimming lessons implemented in the framework of physical education in the educational institution are not available, then once a week for up to two hours of physical education can be arranged to be merged on one school day.

(11b)⁷⁴ When CLXXXVII law of 2011, Act § 8 (2) on vocational training is applied, the calculation of the time frame shall not be affected by the application of  paragraph (11).

(12) The school takes care of organizing easier physical education classes within the framework of the compulsory physical educations.

(13) A school with at least four grades ensures the operation of a school sports club. The tasks of a school sports club may be carried out by a youth sports organization active in a school, based on an agreement with the school. At least forty-five minutes twice a week should be ensured for the organization of sports club activities for every school group created in accordance with established sports fields and activities. The sports club activities can be lead by a trainer or by a professional, qualified person, as determined by special legislation, the list of qualifications required in the field of vocational training or qualifications in sports activities, who took part in at least 120 hours of continued education pedagogical training, organized by a higher education institution”[1]
