Jump rope exercises in pairs, with a short rope

  1. The partners face each other; one pupil is holding the rope with both hands, behind his/her back. The other pupil is holding the partner's shoulder and they jump together in such a way, that at every second turn of the rope (slow swing) they let the rope remain under their feet. (Linking arms helps the pupils stay close to each other and feel each other's rhythm while jumping)

  2. Starting position as above. After the second and third turn of the rope, the jumping pupil releases the partner's shoulder and performs turns left and right along his/her longitudinal axis.

  3. Starting position remains the same. The partners are constantly jumping and the rope is turning at every jump.

  4. The previous exercise is combined with exercise 1. The change of pace should happen at a specified time, e.g. the pace is changed after every second or fourth beat.

  5. Starting position as in exercise 1. The pupil with the rope is turning the rope forward with a slow swing; the pair is jumping together, while the partner goes down into a squat and then rises to a standing position, all the time jumping.

  6. In pairs, one participant takes the position behind the partner with the rope and holds his/her shoulder. They start jumping, the rope is turning forward. It may also be carried out turning the rope backward.

  7. The partners face each other, standing next to each other. The pupil with the rope is turning the rope forward with a slow swing. When the rope passes under his/her feet and is on the rise, the partner makes a determined step and moves in before him/her, gripping their shoulder, and they both continue to jump. The moving out to the side (exit from under the rope) happens the same way, when the rope is on the rise. It may also be carried out in such a way that they jump once together and once separately.

  8. As in the exercise above, but after the fourth jump performed together, the participant with the rope, having lifted the rope over the partner's head on one side, by their bodies, performs a 180 degree turn so his/her partner is now behind his/her back, and they both continue to jump, turning the rope backwards four times, then the same partner turns 180 degrees again, in the same direction, and now they continue to jump facing each other, turning the rope forward.

  9. Starting position as in the exercise above. The pupils begin to jump together, the participant without the rope gradually goes down into a squat, then the partner with the rope moves his legs apart and makes side swings on both sides of his/her body. Meanwhile, the squatting partner ducks forward under his/her partner's legs and they jump together again over the rope. (Before the exercise begins the partners need to discuss the exact arrangements of beat changes)

  10. As in the previous exercise, but the partner ducks under his/her partner's legs backward.

  11. The pair face each other, standing next to each other. The pupil is turning the rope and jumping. The partner is jumping in the same rhythm, in place. After the specified number of repetitions, the partner with the rope with a determined step moves in before his/her partner, continuously jumping, and now they jump together a couple of times, then the same participant moves out to the other side and continues to jump in place. Then he performs the same sequence but in the opposite direction. The exercise is more difficult when the sequence consists of one jump together and one jump separately.

  12. The previous exercise, but when they jump together, the partner without the rope turns twice 180 degrees, around his own longitudinal axis.

  13. As above, with turns to the left and then to the right. The exercise may be carried out in such a way than as they perform the reverse sequence, more and more pupils 'tie up' behind the back of one of the participants.

  14. The exercise is made more difficult, when the participants perform sequences of one jump together and one jump separately.

  15. Pairs jump together facing each other four times, the partner with the rope performs a turn 360 degrees in any direction, and jumping together is continued. Then a turn in the direction can be performed.

  16. The previous exercise may be carried out with more pupils, so that 5 or 6 pupils (or more) stand behind each other, at one step distance. The pupil with the rope 'collects' all the participants so that s/he jumps twice next to another pupil, then they jump together twice facing the next pupil, then again next to another pupil, then twice together, and so on.

  17. The partners stand next to each other, the rope holding pupil is turning the rope, and then with a half turn s/he takes the partner in and they continue to jump together, turning rope backward. The exercise may be continued so that the rope holding pupil continues to turn to the partner's other side.

  18. The partners stand one behind the other, the partner at the back holds the rope and turns it forward, they perform 'running in place', gradually accelerating the tempo.

  19. The partners stand facing each other. One of them is turning the rope, the other is jumping. After three or four jumps the participant without the rope takes over the rope from his/her partner while both of them are jumping.

  20. The same exercise may be carried out so that the partner who is standing behind the rope holder will take over the rope and continue to jump.
