The extension and adaptation of the corrective exercises utilizable within the limits of everyday physical education – and compiled by MGT – for physical education classes

Hézsőné Böröcz Andrea

In September 2012 the gradual introduction of everyday physical education began. In the next school year it will become gradually valid for all years, that is, after 4 school years, in September 2016, all learners will benefit from it.

For daily physical education to achieve its goal and serve the health of the children as much as possible, a number of requirements must be met. For example, it needs to be implemented in such an atmosphere and using such pedagogical methods that the learners would enjoy physical education classes and that the physical exercises would form an integral part of their daily lives in the future. It is not negligible either that parents should become more aware of the fact that daily physical education has a uniquely high impact on health care and on learning development.

The increased number of classes offers an opportunity for the presentation of such motion exercises, which, so far, due to time limitations, could not be presented, although their usefulness and importance is indisputable, because they have a positive effect on health condition. With that information I would like to contribute to the knowledge of physical education experts. It is not inessential to mention that the presented motion exercises make minimal requirements on time and devices, and thus they can be carried out in schools with space limitations.

Posture correction

Correct posture perception, the necessary and adequate strength and extensibility of the muscles are indispensible and posit important tasks for school physical education. The Hungarian Spine Society (MGT) as early as in 1999 compiled a practice test series and recommended motion development materials, entitled "Posture Correction", which were made available for many physical education teachers who participated in teacher training courses. It is not accidental that this material has been included in the National Curriculum, as a recommended teaching material.

As a professional who knows, teaches and certifies the exercises of "Posture Correction" I want to help those practicing physical education teachers to learn and apply them, who did not have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with this material. Posture correction exercises should be carried out regularly in order to be meaningful and effective. In addition, I recommend exercises for each muscle group in order to achieve the appropriate muscular strength and to develop muscle extensibility, so that physical education classes and afternoon exercise classes would become more varied and colorful, and that the kids would not get bored.
