IV.5.7. Crossover backwards

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6tm_2KkMSw

  1. Taking small steps to the sides.
  2. Taking small cross-steps to the sides.
  3. The previous exercises while rolling straight backwards.
  4. Rolling straight ahead with the legs crossed at the back.
  5. Continuous cross-steps back and forth while rolling backwards.
  6. Taking small cross-steps to the sides in a way that the heel of the skate turns 30-40° to the direction of the step.
  7. Kick scooting backwards in a medium-diameter circle with the body weight placed on the internal foot with respect to the arc, and pushing with the external foot.
  8. Kick scooting backwards, like in the previous task, but the external leg should start pushing all the way from in front of the internal leg.
  9. While rolling backwards, taking small cross-steps to the sides in a way that the heel of the skate turns 30-40° to the direction of the step.
  • Assistance:
    • The assisting person is standing in the centre of the circle, holds the skater’s closer hand and follows the turn. This way, the skater can feel how much they have to place the centre of gravity inwards with respect to the arc.
  1. Crossover backwards in greater and greater circles.
  2. Making a figure 8 and crossover backwards at the curves.

Incorrect execution:

  • There are no cross-steps.
  • The feet are at a wrong angle with respect to the turn.
  • Loss of balance, body weight is not in the front and inwards with respect to the arc of the turn.
  • The steps are not continuous.
