I.4. BEACH HANDBALL
The history of beach handball began in the 1990s. Some say that it traces its roots in Italy where the sand beach version of traditional handball, the ancestor of beach handball was first invented. The breakthrough came in 1996 with the first beach handball seminar in Marsala, Italy, where officials set the basics of the philosophy of the game.

Soon appeared the first major international tournaments, while the federation-based organizational framework is still missing. Thus, beach handball is to be considered as part of traditional handball life.

In Hungary, the game was introduced to the public in 1999, and this special version of handball soon became popular. Beach handball being a great form of active recreation is a perfect choice for handball players in the summer break.
