 Gameplay

  • Ultimate is a team game played by  7 players per team. Both men and women can play this game.
  • The aim of each team is to score a point by completing a pass to a team member standing in the end zone they are attacking.
  • Play is initiated at the start of the game and after each point. Both teams line up on the front of their respective end zone lines. The defence throws (“pulls”) the disc to the offense.
  • Players may not run with the disc but pass it to any team member in any direction. When a pass in not completed, the defence immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.
  • Games are typically played to a score limit of 17. This means an average duration of 100 minutes.
  • The ultimate is played without referees. Contacts between players are not allowed. Players are responsible for the fairness of the game, for applying and observing the rules. Ultimate’s principles, also known as the Spirit of the Game, help players interpret the rules and self-referee the game.
