I.6.1. Main rules

The court

The court consists of two 5.5x5.5 m boxes, 12.8 m apart.

The speeder

  • All four types of speeder have better aerodynamic characteristics than those of normal badminton – thanks to their being heavier and smaller. Due to their weight and smaller diameter, they have a smaller drag. This means that they can be sent to a greater distance and with greater accuracy.
  • They can reach up to 290 km/h flying speed and a distance of 30 m.

The game

  • A game usually lasts three winning sets. A set is played until 16 points. At a score of 15:15 there is overtime, where two points head start are needed to win the set.

Service

  • The players draw lots to decide which player serves first. Service then alternates after every three serves.
  • Every serve counts. If the score is tied at 15:15, service alternates after each point. The serve has to be from the service zone. The serving payer can decide whether he/she starts serving in playing zone or from behind the baseline.
  • It is allowed to let the speeder drop from hip level and hit it as it falls. Overhead service, either standing or with a flying jump, is only permitted from the back service line.
  • The losing side always has first service in the next game.

Scoring

Every volley counts. Points are awarded in the following cases:

  • service fault
  • speeder contact with the ground
  • speeder lands in playing field (or on one of lines) and cannot be returned
  • speeder lands out
  • speeder is hit twice by the same player in sequence
  • body contact with the speeder

If a player returns an "out" Speeder, it counts as "accepted" and the game continues.

Changing sides

  • Players change sides after each game to ensure equal playing conditions (wind and light conditions). If a fifth game (tiebreak) becomes necessary, players change sides as soon as one player reaches eight points.

Doubles match

  • The two double team players are standing in one single court.
  • Each double team consists of an attack and a back space player. The back space player is not allowed to position his rear foot in front of his team mate’s rear foot in the moment of hitting. This action counts as a foul and causes a point loss.
  • The back and front positions of the team players are changing with the service changes.
  • Counting and changeover are equal to the Single Match rules.
