Escape from the net
Number of participants: the whole class, in groups
Necessary equipment: tatami or carpets, stopwatch
Skills: strength, cooperation
We designate groups who will be fishes and groups who will constitute a net. First we set up the nets. The group members stand up in a circle and hold hands to make a closed circle. Members of another group are let inside this circle to become fishes. They stand up scattered within the circle.
Aim: On a mark the fishes try to get out of the net under the hands of the other group. The members of the net should not let them out. We measure with a stopwatch the time needed until the last fish gets out, then the groups change roles. The group who could escape in less time becomes the winner.
Rules:
- It is not allowed to break through clasped hands.
- It is only allowed to go through under the hands.
Variations:
- The game can be played with a time limit. In this case the group who could get more fishes free is the winner.
- With an advanced group we may allow breaking through the hands.
