Baton/medicine ball wrestling
Number of participants: the whole class, in pairs
Necessary equipment: a baton or a medicine ball for each pair
Skills: endurance, strength, stability of the grip
The pairs line up facing each other in a stride stand position. They both hold on to the baton with slightly bent arms.
Aim: to take the baton away from the partner.
Rules:
- It is not allowed to sit down.
- It is not allowed to hit, kick, bite or to step on the other’s foot.
- The position of the hands on the baton may be varied during the fight.
- It is allowed to twist, pull, push or lift the partner with the baton.
Variations:
- A variant of this game can be played with a medicine ball. There is a small designated circle with a medicine ball in the middle. The pairs stand outside the circle when the game starts. On a mark they both aim at getting the medicine ball. If a player manages to lie on the medicine ball and hold the ball this way, s/he is considered the winner.
- In another variant the above variant can be continued until a given time limit is up. That player is the winner who has the ball at the end of the time limit.
- We can play with several medicine balls put out and the whole class plays together. Everyone can decide for him/herself which ball s/he would like to fight for.
- We may limit the number of players fighting for one ball.
- We may play for speed: several balls, everyone is playing – the first to get a ball is the winner.
