The place and roles of sport geography in sciences

“Sport geography developed within the realm of sport and geography aiming to analyse the impacts of geographic environments on sport activities (Bánhidi, M. 2011, p. 21). Its development was due to the interdisciplinary studies within natural- and social sciences. The consequences of this process were the new courses and sciences (Votkori, L. 2003)”.

Formally sport science consists of two big symbolic segments, that is, sport and geographic- sciences. Functionally it examines sport phenomena with the means and tools of geographic methods by using the paradigms of geographical science. Therefore it is useless to detail if sport really belongs to geography. The perspectives of sport geography determine the degree and scale of examinations. The relationship between the natural and social environments is also part of the research. Examinations involve the phenomena of both geography and sport.

The following chapter will look at and show two often applied models (Tóth,, J. 1981, Nemes Nagy, J. 1998) also concentrating on the issues of cultural geography.
