Psychosomatic symptoms

The examinations of psychosomatic symptoms of teenagers are crucial. One of the main reasons for this is that in this age diseases which typically occur later in their life are not detected, for example, chronic and non-infectious (heart and cardiovascular disorders, cancers) ones. The other primary reason is that mainly psychosomatic complaints have been reported by school doctors. Psychosomatic symptoms are the ones which cannot be fitted clearly into any group of diseases. In this age complaints cover, for example, head-, back, - or stomach ache and dizziness. There are also psychic problems, such as, irritability, distress, and exhaustion.

Both the Hungarian and foreign surveys report the occurrence of the considerably great number of the above mentioned complaints. According to the data of HBSC survey the Hungarian school children rarely complain about dizziness (7-13%). Often they have sleeping problems (14-20%) and most of them mentioned some sorts of pain (7-33%) (Költő and Kökönyei, 2011). The similar rates of these complaints have also been shown out in case of Chinese, Finnish, Irish and Bosnian teenagers (Coo at al, 2012, Kinnunen at al, 2010, Kelly at al, 2010, Cerni-Obrdalj at al, 2010).

According to the outcomes girls have recorded more symptoms and their age related complaints are increasing. It has already been stated that psychosomatic symptoms are also generated by social and economic status as well as school stress (Gini and Pozzoli, 2013. Pikó and Keresztes, 2006, Elgar at al, 3013).
