Transferring knowledge verbally

Verbal communication and explanation are indispensable means of learning.

Verbal communication informs students about aims, types of exercises and workouts, rules of performance and how to use the elements of exercises.

Explanations develop and change students’ approaches. They should be clear, meaningful and visually obvious.

Students must be informed about aims and tasks and it should be checked if they have understood the questions and tasks. If not, explanations should be repeated clearly.

Students’ understanding is supported by teaching specific words and expressions. It guarantees students’ development regarding theory and practice.

It is suggested that explanation should be brief as in PE classes the focus is on practice and doing. Too many explanations spoil the essence of teaching and they make classes boring, waste of time and the required aims will not be achieved.

Students’ age and level of their knowledge must also be taken into consideration.
