Illustrating motions, movements and exercises

  • Illustration should always be started with drawing the line of the floor/ ground. The length of line is defined by the “length” of the exercise. When a part of body is drawn on or under the line it means that students support themselves on the floor/ ground. If a body part is drawn over the line it indicates that the exercise is performed in the air.
  • First the starting position should be shown
  • Then it is decided which view (front, side, rarely back) of the illustrations will be the best. Their starting and finishing positions are also indicated. The illustrated postures show the most representative phases of motions/movements of exercises. The movement of turning/ twisting is shown over the line and “45”, “90”, “180”, “360” degrees are attached to it depending on its rate.
  • If a drawing does not show clearly which body parts, either the right or the left ones are illustrated then –“+”- shows that it is the right arm/ leg. If no sign is used it means the left limbs.
  • Rhythm/ tempo are shown under the line. The first rhythm schedule is written under the second posture. Evidently drawings are not numbered but the sequence of motions is indicated with numbers. The first drawing is the starting position.
  • If an exercise contains several postures then it is not needed to redrawn it, but a coma must be put after the rhythm schedule and the number is inserted under the posture that has already been illustrated.
  • Each rhythm schedule is separated fro each other by a coma.
  • It means that under each posture there is a different number.
  • When drawing a coma must be inserted after indicating the rhythm schedule. Therefore the next rhythm schedule can be found on the right. If a posture has already been shown then it can be found on the left.
  • To understand what type of exercises should be performed and to be able to draw each exercise all the other signs should be known. (László Honfi 2011).
