Postural correction in physical education classes

An important task of school physical education is to prevent postural defects and deformities occurring in early childhood. We cannot be indifferent to the fact that pupils often sit and move incorrectly due to the weakness of the muscles responsible for proper body posture and because of the shortened muscles, and that they are not able to carry out well everyday basic activities, using proper techniques. The essential task of the physical education professionals is to carry out posture correction exercises during every physical education class and training session, and to develop the muscles that are responsible for ensuring that pupils are able to maintain proper posture.

In terms of posture, the most important function is muscle perception of the core muscles. We need to teach / learn when and to what extent our muscles are tense or relaxed. A significant portion of posture problems can be mainly explained by the reduced perception of the core muscles. The body posture as a complex function cannot be learned until the muscle perception and muscle coordination are not satisfactory. The posture is closely related to the respiratory movements, so it is important to teach proper breathing. The aim of the posture correction gymnastic exercises is the preservation of mobility, and many kinds of stretching exercises provide the means to that goal.

The exercises arching the lumbar region (lordosis-like posture) are important in terms of the mobility of the lower part of the spine, while strengthening the deep back muscles and abdominal muscles makes it attainable that the pupils are able to keep the corrected posture.
