The notion of strengthening effect and its manifestations

We can talk about strengthening effect when a group of muscles produces force against some external power, in other words, this group works and in this process its static or dynamic strength may be developed.

  • Static strength exercises/ trainings

We can talk about static strengthening if by the force (inner force) of muscle it is balanced with the external force, or resistance. Thus it cannot bring about any movements.  In this case the tightness of muscle increases but its length will not change during the effect of force. The type of muscle contraction is isometric.

  • Dynamic strengthening and braking forces

Dynamic strengthening force is the one when the force of muscle brings about movements. We can talk about the overpowering mode of muscle force when the shortened muscle exerts bigger force than the external resistance, for example, lifting from prone into push-up.

We can talk about the braking force mode of muscles when the lengthened muscle exerts less force thus letting the external force move certain body parts. For example, lowering down from push- up into prone position.
