VIII.4.2. HUNGAROFIT

This health-related physical fitness assessment system was planned to develop a standardized, reliable system with the support of The Sports Hospital Research Institute. Testing were carried out both in sports-courts and playing fields and in labs. When the data, measured in two different places, were the same it was proved that the test was suitable for assessing physiological parameters of instantaneous performances.

Hungarofit tests:

  • Cooper test: 12 running/ jogging or swimming (in a well-founded case 6 min running/ jogging), sometimes 2000 m or 1 mile long (1609 km) flat race running/ jogging
  • Long jump from standstill, with both feet
  • From throwing spreader position pushing/ rolling a  thick ball with one hand (m)
  • Push-ups with bent arms and stretching until exhaustion
  • Throwing  thick ball with two hands, above the head backwards (m)
  • Lifting torso from prone position until exhaustion
  • Sit ups from supine position – descending until exhaustion

Ildikó F. Mérey who worked out this program suggests using the test from the age of 7and offers an easier test for children aged 7-8. This test consists of endurance and three motor tests. For children aged 9 the test offers a simpler endurance and four motor tests. This system is called Mini-Hungarofit program.

For children aged 7-8 she suggests the Cooper or a 1 mile long running tests measuring endurance. To test lower limb force she advises long-jump from standstill and the best way of measuring the force of abdominal muscle is sit-ups from supine position.

In Mini Hungarofit program the Cooper tests or 2000 m long flat race assess aerobic endurance. In addition it is advised to measure dynamic endurance force of arm muscles with arm bent and stretching tests in prone position.

A scoring system helps evaluating children’s performance and achievement. Maximum 140 points can be achieved and it adds up from 77 points given to motor test and 63 points gained from endurance force test.

This system also lists the aims and tasks to develop students’ health and fitness.
