VIII.4.1. EUROFIT

The Eurofit Fitness Testing Battery is one of the most well-known tests, which measures physical fitness. This method was developed by the Council of Europe in 1980. The success of this test system is proved by the large number of users. Due to the multi-purposes of the Eurofit Fitness Tests the norm-and criterion-referenced scales for the test have been developed. It has been implemented in Hungary on the condition that it meets the Hungarian scientific criteria and the outcomes could be compared with the international results. Naturally it is also required that this process should not damage children’s health and it could be easily carried out.

Eurofit test system contains the following motor tests:

  • Single leg balance test (not compulsory)
  • Speed of limb movement
  • Flexibility test for the torso and shoulder (compulsory)
  • Dynamic leg-force test: long-jump from standstill
  • Static force and power test: hand-grip strength test (not compulsory)
  • Torso-strength test: sit-up test (compulsory)
  • Functional arm strength test: hanging with bent arms (compulsory)
  • Running speed: 10x5 m shuttle run (compulsory)
  • Cardio-respiratory endurance test: 20 m shuttle run (not compulsory)

Each test should start with the balance test and finishes with the 20 m long shuttle run. The tests are not interchangeable. The “non-compulsory” tests can be left out. Eurofit test can also be completed with antropometrical measurements for a more thorough examination.
