V.5.2. Development of the ability of rhythm

according to Farmosi (2011)

The rhythm ability can be characterized by capturing the varying sound rhythm and holding simple cyclic movements, such as walking or running. Two typical developmental periods can be determined. With boys between 7-11 years intensive progress can be observed with minor decline. From the age of 13, the difference between sexes grows; boys outperform the girls in development. This equalizes by 19-21 years when the girls perform better than the boys. The adult movements are practical, economic, automatic and accurate in terms of coordination. The coordination of everyday and work-related movements is stable, while people untrained in sport motor movements can show a decrease in coordinative performance already between 30-50 years of age. This decline, however, can vary greatly based on the individual’s lifestyle.
