V.4.2. Methodological aspects

  • The flexural ability can be most efficiently developed in childhood. After it is in negative contact with muscle strength development;
  • The training in flexibility (whether active or passive practices) should be preceded by conscious, well-planned and thorough warm-up in order to avoid injuries, together with careful and disciplined execution of the exercises.
  • Many wrong practices were observed during training. In general, during the second half of the warm-up, after the increase in blood circulation, exercises to develop flexibility already should be carried out.  Furthermore, depending on the training plan, before and after the strength development, flexibility exercises should be planned as well.
  • Stretching exercises should be practiced in series and each series must be repeated until the point when slight pain occurs.
  • The improvement of flexibility by active stretching exercises can be preserved for a longer period of time than by way of passive exercises.
  • With flexibility training, the characteristics of the sport should be taken into account. With this in mind, this capability should be only developed to the extent that provides the smooth implementation of the technical elements (Nadori, 1995).
