VIII.11.1. A sample program of a water sports camp

As an example below you can find the schedule and the professional and recreational programs of a 7-day water sports camp.

Travelling: own means of transport

Day 1:

Arrival before 2.00 pm. (Tiszakécske)

2.00-3.30 Camp building.

3.30-4.00 Information on camp life, programs and rules.

4.00 Land training program: basic rowing practice on land. Water traffic rules.   4.30 Swimming.

5.00 Boat launching: rules and practice. Rowing in different boat types.

6.30 Dinner and free time.

10.00 Bedtime.

Day 2.

7.00 am Wake-up time.

7.30 Checking the tents.

8.00 Breakfast.

9.00 Launching the boats.

9.00 – 12.00 Rowing upstream (10kms), then in another boat type downstream.

1.00 pm. Lunch

3.00 Launching the boats. Rowing downstream (10 kms), then back to the camp site.

7.00 Dinner.

8.00 Evaluation of daily performance.

Quiz, cultural program.

10.00 Bedtime.

Day 3.

7.00 Wake-up time, breaking the camp.

8.00 Loading equipment on truck.

8.30 Breakfast, packed lunches handed out.

9.00 Clean-up site, launching the boats.

Rowing downstream on the Tisza River to the next camp site. (Csongrád 42 km.)

Halway at about 12.00 a stopover and lunch.

Cca. 3.00-4.00 Arrival in Csongrád.

4.00 Camp building.

6.00 Dinner, evaluation of daily performance.

Free program.

10.00 Bedtime.

Day 4.

7.00 am Wake-up time.

7.30 Checking the tents.

8.00 Breakfast.

9.00 Launching the boats and rowing on the Körös River. (20 km).

Practice: lining up for the start.

1.00 pm. Lunch and free time.

3.00. Playful games in water.

6.00 Dinner and evaluation of daily performance.

Free program, camp fire.

10.00 Bedtime.  

Day 5.

7.00 am. Wake-up time. Breaking the camp.

8.00 Loading equipment on truck.

8.30 Breakfast and handing out packed lunches.

9.00. Clean up the site and launching the boats.

Rowing to the next camp site:  Mindszent. (30 km)

Halfway at about 12.00 stopover and lunch.

3.00 Arrival in Mindszent.

Building the camp.

Free program.

7.00 Dinner and evaluation of daily performance.

Free program.

Day 6.

7.00 am. Wake-up time.

7.30 Checking the tents.

8.00. Breakfast and information on the boat race.  

9.30 Preliminary rounds organized.

Kayaking tandem (men, women, mixed)

Canoeing quadruple (men, women)

Canoe (7) (men and women)

1.00 Lunch

3.00. Finals organized.

Outdoor cooking, dinner.

8.00 Evaluation of weekly performance.

Declaration of results.

Information on the tasks of the following day.

Camp closing event: playful games.

11.00 pm. Bedtime

Day 7

6.00 am. Wake-up time, breaking the camp.

6.30 Loading equipment on truck.

7.00 Breakfast and handing out packed lunches.

7.30 Launching the boats.

Rowing downstream to Szeged.

Halfway: stopover and lunch.

Cca. 3-4 pm. Arrival in Szeged.

Cleaning of the boats and putting them back to storage room. Camp closure.

Evaluation of the week.

Breaking of the camp

When breaking the camp the camp site needs to be restored to its original conditions. It includes the following activities:

Putting down the tents, cleaning them, packing camp equipment.

Picking up garbage.

Packing individual belongings

Landscaping.

Inspection of the camp site.

After-camp activites:  

Maintenance and return of rented or borrowed equipment.

Writing evaluation report  and the summary of experiences.

(It is also necessary to evaluate assistants and responsible persons, the camp programs, the general atmosphere, emergency events, if any, actual costs.)

Financial report. Inform participants on detailed budget and return excess payments, if there are any.
