XI. Prevention of the metabolic syndrome

Whereas the MetS is initially not a disease, but a group of various syndromes, before the development of the disease there is an opportunity for partial prevention. The explanation of this is that the WHO data indicate that about 40% of the mortalities caused by the MetS are due to lifestyle habits and physical inactivity, while 20% are based on a genetic background.
