VII.15. Hyperuricemia

Uric acid is an end-product of the purine metabolism. Its normal range in the blood is 6.0-7.0 mg/dl. Its level is decreased by the kidneys, but increased by alcohol, obesity, various drugs, congestive heart failure and renal diseases. An increased level in the blood (hyperuricemia) is a risk factor for high BP. The blood uric acid level is increased by insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia.
