III.4.B. Secretin
It is produced in the duodenum and jejunum (the proximal section of the small intestine) S cells.
Its production is stimulated by duodenal mucosa at acidic pH (pH<4.5).
Its effects: bicarbonate (HCO3-) release from the pancreas (for the neutralization of acid),
liver function ↑,
gastric acid release ↓,
stomach and duodenum motion ↓,
CCK effect ↑.
