III.2.B.g. Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1)

Main effects:  MCP-1 induces macrophage and monocyte infiltration into the inflamed tissue.

Its level is higher in obese patients.

It increases the TNF-α and IL-6 levels.

It causes insulin resistance.

In the lack of MCP-1 or in the event of damaged MCP-1 receptors, insulin resistance and inflammatory mechanisms are ameliorated.
