The above exercises with a ball received in 2 and 1 tempo(s)

DEFENSIVE BASIC POSITION, DEFENSE

Defense against a faking (start or shot) offensive player. Step back with the foot in the given direction. One arm is always at the height of the ball.

Defense against a player breaking through. Step back, press the opponent to change direction or to take up the ball. Press on the ball.

Defensive foot work in criss-cross form, alternating running foot work and defensive foot work sideways.

Defense against a dribbler changing directions on half or full court (step after, running steps).

Defense in 1-on-1 play.

Teach blocking, doing the block with the closer or the other arm.

Defense against an offensive player without ball, then against a ball handler, observing the rules of the game.

Defense against outnumbering offense (1-on-2 and 2-on-2).

PASSES

In a stationary position (standing). One ball for each pair, then 2 balls. Upper two-hand fake, one-hand pushed pass. With a cross step and stepping out.

The above exercise with a bounce pass.

In a stationary position (standing). One ball for each pair, then 2 balls. Faking a one-hand bounce pass, two-hand upper pass.

Pass in from the outside positions to the inside position(s).

Pass in from the outside positions to the inside position(s), then pass out to the weak or strong side.

Passes in 2-on-1 and 3-on-2 situations against a set defense and outnumbering the opponent.

Lots of play without bouncing, tags (catcher game), connected with the learnt technical elements, with various restrictions (e.g. pass only after a given number of pivots, only one-hand pass is allowed, only two-hand pass is allowed, 1 or 2 pass-fakes are mandatory, faking short or long start is mandatory, etc.)

Ball reversal (ball passed to the other side of the court) with the right or the left hand, between the sidelines. Long start!

Passes in 4-on-3 situations against a set defense and outnumbering the opponent.

Also teach passes in 5-on-4 situations against a set defense and outnumbering the opponent.

Passes against zone (reversing the side and direct reversal to the opposite side)

SHOTS

The exercises of the test sheet.

Cut and reception of the ball outside and inside the leg, shot-fake (two-pace/tempo stop), pivoting ahead, jump shot, jumping with both feet (only for players who are physically fit)

Reception of the ball outside and inside the leg, pivoting back, jump shot, jumping with both feet.

Reverse layup.

One-hand and two-hand low shot.

Short lay-up from dribble.

Teach power lay-up from dribble.

Teach power lay-up from received ball.

Tempo shot from dribble, with received ball.

Mid-long-range tempo with 2-pace stop from dribble, with the received ball.

Mid-long-range tempo with 1-pace stop from dribble, with the received ball.

Three-point shot.

TECHNIQUE UNDER THE BACKBOARD (rebound)

Collect the rebound from the backboard, so that the landing is onto both feet, with a perpendicular body toward the backboard, facing the nearer sideline (catching the ball at the highest point). Front pivot toward the goal, shot from both feet.

Collect the rebound from the backboard, so that the landing is onto both feet, with a perpendicular body toward the backboard, facing the central axis (catching the ball at the highest point). Front pivot toward the goal, shot-fake, then with a cross-step, a hook tempo (both feet) from the center.

Collect the rebound from the backboard, so that the landing is onto both feet, with a perpendicular body toward the backboard, facing the central axis (catching the ball at the highest point). Front pivot with the foot further from the backboard, shot-fake, then with a cross-step, pivot toward the goal and sideways, shot from both feet, from the right/ left side.

From a cut (run-in), taking the position at the right/ left side/ center, with the received ball spin with back pivot, right/ left hook-shot from one foot (to the left and right)

From a cut, taking the position at the right/ left side/ center, with the received ball spin with one bounce to the left/ right, shot from both feet.

GET RID OF, FAKES (movement without the ball)

Collision with the defensive player, changing rhythm.

Play in to the center position and move away without the ball.

Play in from the outer positions to the inner position(s), then from this play out to the weak or strong side, the center moving on.

DRIBBLE

Dribble with changing rhythm for 20 meters in a 3-meter wide lane, changing under the legs,   according to the drawing below, changing directions between the cones.

Take the ball between the legs.

Spin fake. The fake is with a bounce next to the foot pivoting back.

Dribble 1-on-1 at the playmaker (point guard) and thrower-in positions, only in 1 sector.

CUT (RUN IN)

Constant repetition of the topics learnt in the previous grades.

One ball for each pair. Dribble from the center circle to the three-point line, meanwhile the partner runs out from the backboard to the thrower-in positon. The player with the ball passes to him, fakes one or three steps toward the partner with the ball, then stepping next to him to the opposite direction, and running behind him, moving toward the ball and the goal, shot on goal with the received ball (“Z” and “L” cut = run in)

2-ON-2 AND 3-ON-3 PLAY WITH THE BALL

Offense

Pick and roll, play in.

Picks (or screens) with the ball (outside, inside).

Defense

2-on-2 defense with sliding through, preventive and following (running) footwork

2-on-2 defense with stepping back/ behind (between the screener and the defense partner)

2-on-2 defense with switching/ shifting (switching ahead or back)

Cross-screens:

  • in connection with three fields
  • in connection with two fields and a center

Offense

Screen away (side, stepping behind, stepping ahead) between fields, between centers, between fields and centers, centers and fields)

Triple cut from different angles (playmaker, from the side with and without the ball)

Triple run-down 3 lanes.

Triple run-down with the third one following and running in (backdoor, second wave)

Three-man weave drill with backdoor, one bounce and without a bounce. Three-man weave drill, with running ahead (pass, screen on the ball side, bounce, pass, screen on the ball side…)

Triple run-down with empty screen and roll (or cut using the pick).

Triple run-down with double screening (pass, empty screen or cut, running in toward the ball, the ball handler hands the ball to the player running there, he dribbles on with 1 bounce, passes to the center, and repetition).

Defense

Defense sliding through and switch/ shifting (stepping behind)

Defense against the exercises described in the offense. Defense of the screen without the ball with breakthrough.

Defense of the screen without the ball with sliding (sliding through between the screener and the fellow defender giving the screen, talk).

Defense of the screen without the ball by getting around (push)

Defense of the screen without the ball by shifting.

Defense against the above exercises, against ball screen (low, screen ahead – return, trap, switch) and against screen without the ball (collision, shift, breakthrough)

BLOCK-OUT

Students must know both types of block-out. Block-out by cross-step and by back pivot.

OFFENSIVE REBOUND

Step out to one side of the defender, then step in front of the defender, taking the inside position in the fight for the rebound. A clear intention to take the inside position.
