Grades 7 and 8

OFFENSIVE BASIC POSITION, STARTING, STOPPING, PIVOTING, FAKING

Basketball basic position. Ball thrown out ahead, stop in one tempo.

Basketball basic position. Ball thrown out in 45 degrees to the left (right), stop in one tempo in basic position. Pivot in front of the goal, pivoting forward and backward.

Basketball basic position, back to the direction movement. Ball thrown back, turn left/ right, stop in one tempo in basic position, pivoting.

Basic position, left-hand bounce to left foot with a short start, next bounce right to the right-foot step, stop in one tempo, pivoting in 360 degrees forward and backward.

The above exercise with right hand.

The above exercise (in both directions) with 5 bounces.

During left-hand dribble (with long and short start), after 3 bounces, stop in two tempos (left-right). Pivot with left foot in 360 degrees forward and back.

The above with the opposite hand.

Stop in two tempos from a ball thrown out; start with a long start (stop left-right and right-left).

The above exercise, start with short start.

From basic position short and long starting fakes, basic position, faking, step back into basic position.

The above exercise + start with dribble.

DEFENSIVE BASIC POSITION, DEFENSE

Defense against a pivoting offensive player with active foot and arm work.

Defensive foot work in criss-cross form without running steps.

Defensive foot work in criss-cross form, alternating running steps and sideways defensive foot work.

Defense against a dribbler changing directions in full court (step after, running step)

Defense against an offensive player faking start (step back)

Defense in 1-on-1 play.

Defense against an offensive player without the ball, then against one with the ball, observing the rules of the game.

Defense against an offensive cutting player.

Defense against double run down 1-on-2 and 2-on-2.

DRIBBLE (THE BALL)

Dribble with changing rhythm for 20 meters in a 3-meter wide lane, changing in front of the body, according to the drawing below, changing directions between the cones.

The above exercise, changing hands behind the back.

According to the drawing above, placing the cones one by one, and rolling off changing directions in front of the buoys.

3-4-5-man weave drill with dribble and 1 bounce with pass.

SHOTS

Short, underhand and layup shot from the low sector (or low-post area), starting toward the base line from 2 or 3 bounces.

Short, underhand and layup shot from 45 degrees for the base and starting in, always completing the shot on the starting side.

Short, underhand and layup shot, starting from the center, with central finish.

TECHNIQUE UNDER THE BACKBOARD

Collect the rebound from the backboard, so that the landing is onto both feet, with a perpendicular body toward the backboard, facing the nearer sideline (catching the ball at the highest point). Front pivot toward the goal, shot from both feet.

Collect the rebound from the backboard, so that the landing is onto both feet, with a perpendicular body toward the backboard, facing the central axis (catching the ball at the ighest point). Front pivot with the foot further from the backboard toward the goal, shot from the center, from both feet.

PASSES

In a stationary position. One ball for each pair. Pass with a push, with right and left hand.

The above exercise with a bounce pass.

The above exercise with a one-hand upper (overhead) pass, with right and left hand.

Teaching the pass fakes. E.g. two-hand upper fake, from that a two-hand chest pass.

In movement, according to the drawing of the kangaroo age-group (with the ball received from the passers running down), doing the exercise with a pushed pass. Right and left hand. (The passing players also do the passes with the hand in the direction.)

Lots of play without bouncing, tags (catcher game), connected with the learnt technical elements, with various restrictions (e.g. pass only after a given number of pivots, pass only with one hand, pass only with two hands, etc.)

GET RID OF (THE OPPONENT), FAKING (movement without the ball)

Slide (a sliding step) for every step.

Slide after every 3rd step slantwise to the right and left.

Run from the three-point line to the semi-circle, quickly change directions with support/pivoting and run back, then run to the penalty corner and run back.

The above exercise with the ball. One-pace, two-pace stop, pass to the partner one sector away, run to the corner of the base, then to that of the pear, getting rid of, receiving the ball in one pace/tempo, pivoting ahead and back.

The above exercise with a two-pace reception, with pivoting foot work (getting rid of on the left side, stop left-right).

CUT (RUN IN)

One ball for each pair. Dribble from the center circle to the three-point line, meanwhile the partner runs out from the backboard to the positon of thrower-in. The ball handler passes to him, fakes one or three steps to the opposite direction, then stepping toward the ball handler asks for the ball running in, and layup shot (Running in “C”).

The above exercise, but after the dribbler passes, he fakes toward the ball handler (the defensive player blocks his way completely in this direction), he steps behind the defensive player and asks for the ball, running in, for shooting.

One ball for each pair. Dribble from the center circle to the three-point line, meanwhile the partner runs out from the backboard to the positon of thrower-in. The ball handler passes to him, three faking steps with the ball to the opposite, slantwise direction; at the fourth step he steps behind the defensive player and runs toward the ball and the goal. Layup shot with the received ball (“S” cut, or back cut = backdoor = running in at the back)

BLOCK-OUT

After moving toward the offensive player, impact/collision with the offensive player, cross step toward the offensive player, block-out.

OFFENSIVE REBOUND

Step out to one side of the defensive player, then try to take the inside position, moving in front of the defensive player (sliding step).

BALL GAMES

TACTICS

Offensive

Play one-on-one with the received ball, after cutting or getting rid of (the opponent).

Find the empty sector after a pass following a breakthrough/penetration, or after cutting.

Take the ball up against pressing, drawing attention on the opportunities to pass. Keep on stressing the individual initiatives.

Start with a given player taking the ball up, occupying 4 lanes. (The 4th and 5th men cut, in the central lane) At the level of familiarization.

Start (a given player takes the ball up, occupying 4 lanes).

Outnumbering, two-on-one (also explain 3-on-2).

Teach the positions.

Play 2-on-2, with 1-on-1 and cutting, without block-out.

Changing places at the baseline; run across.

Change from offense to defense.

Cut from 5 field line-up.

Play 5-on-5 with cutting, stressing the 1-on-1 play.

Defensive player:

At pressing (preparation) deflect to the sideline. (The offensive player has to bounce at least twice.)

Deflect to the wrong hand.

Help the player with the ball, positioning back to one’s own player.

Change from defense to offense.

Defense against the tasks described in offense.

PLAYFUL EXERCISES WITH BALL, THE APPLICATION OF GAMES IS OF PRIMARY IMPORTANCE!

Catcher games (tags = catch the others), competitions with and without the ball.

TEACH THE RULES NECESSARY FOR THE AGE-GROUP.
