Forms of swim teaching

The teaching of the practical material with the aim of acquainting learners with water can be organized in the form of differentiated instruction. On the other hand the chosen form of teaching can be influenced by several factors, including:

  • organizational framework
  • learners’ age
  • nature of movements and the techniques of the individual swimming style.
  • Optimal age-dependent performance
  • technical standard of the pool
  • the instructor’s leading role

It is primarily the age of learners that influences the way of teaching. The younger the learners are, the more controlled form of teaching is needed. In addition to the acquisition of swimming styles the improvement of the learners’s skills is also to be considered.

The factors influencing the ways of teaching are as follows:

  • The instruction of an entire class or a group of learners within the framework of a swimming course is efficient, when teaching new material or, in case of revision. Explanation, correction and demonstration are also done in front of the whole class.
  • Group work is recommended when the main aim is to practice already acquired teaching material.
