7.1 Working with texts. Mnemonics

A Mnemonic (the “Mn” is pronounced simply “N”) is a phrase or sentence which helps us to remember something else: usually, the first letter of each word gives us the first letter of the words we are trying to remember.

So, for example, there are 6 strings on a guitar, and each is tuned to a different note.

The 6th string is tuned to the note E

The 5th string is tuned to the note A

The 4th string is tuned to the note D

The 3rd string is tuned to the note G

The 2nd string is tuned to the note B

The 1st string is tuned to the note E

We learn the sequence of notes using this mnemonic…

Every Afternoon Dan Goes Back Empty

                                   Every

                                   Afternoon

                                   Dan

                                   Goes

                                   Back

                                   Empty
