Natural law and moral philosophy

Abstract

A tananyag a modern természetjogi gondolkodás kialakulását mutatja be Aquinói Szent Tamástól John Locke filozófiájáig. E folyamat egyik legfontosabb elméleti jelensége, hogy a pozitív-jogi állapot politikai-jogi struktúráját a természetjogi alapok morális szempontból is igazolják és legitimálják. A tárgyalt szerzők: Aquinói Szent Tamás, Francisco Suárez, Hugo Grotius, Thomas Hobbes, Samuel Pufendorf és John Locke.

English abstract

The course presents an outline of the emerging of modern natural law theory from Thomas Aquinas to John Locke. According to the key concept of this tradition, the theory of natural laws and rights provides a decisively moral legitimation for the political and legal structure of positive legal state. The course analyses the social philosophies of the following authors: Thomas Aquinas, Francisco Suárez, Hugo Grotius, Thomas Hobbes, Samuel Pufendorf and John Locke.
