Archery games for primary school children

1. Steal the points

Divide the 80cm target sheet with tape into four. The game is played by four students. Every quarter on the sheet is designated to a player. Players can only shoot into their own corners a set of three arrows. Scoring goes according to the rings on the sheet. If an arrow goes into somebody else’s quarter, you may decide to subtract the points of that shot from the total of that player. You may agree on how many rounds the players do during a game. Distance from the target: 15-18m.

2. Who gets down first?

We draw a target sheet with four circles in the following way. If a player gets 3 arrows into the top circle, s/he may aim at the circle which is below. The player to get in three arrows into every circle wins. Variation: different scores are attributed to the different circles, the player who scores the most point with three shots is the winner.

3. Break the chalk

Older students like this game of skill very much. First we stick two arrows into a target. Then we hang up two pieces of chalk on strings on the arrows. Little pouches are attached to the bottom of each chalk with small prizes in them. The players aim at the chalk, which will not damage the arrows but is hard enough to hit.

4. Balloon hunt

This is also a very popular game. A balloon is attached to an arrow and the player who hits it first is the winner. This game discourages players to hesitate when aiming, which is a common problem with beginners, because everyone would like to be first.
